Dr. Clifton Baile

Description of Research Interests

Our laboratory has broad interests in the molecular basis of energy balance regulation and growth. Our research includes various aspects of the control of feeding behavior and energy balance regulation by the central nervous system and adipose tissue. The roles of leptin and growth hormone in these functions are of particular interest. We are also investigating the roles of natural compounds in adipogenesis, lipolysis and adipocyte apoptosis.  Biotechnology tools, including the development of transgenic animals and a variety of genomic and proteomic technologies, are utilized to study the molecular basis of these systems of animal physiology.

We have coordinated the Georgia Research Alliance's program in Agricultural Biotechnology at the University of Georgia. This program has dual goals of conducting leading-edge research and seeding start-up companies to commercialize animal and plant biotechnology in Georgia. State of the art equipment, in conjunction with cutting-edge technologies such as genomics, bioinformatics, vector construction, both high through-put screening and genotyping, and transgenesis are available.
